"Bikaner the Heritage city" Rajasthan

This grand palace(Bikaner) is an architectural masterwork in red sandstone, and was built by Maharaja Ganga Singh Ji in the memory of his father Maharaja Lal Singh Ji in 1902. Sir Swinton Jacob designed this oriental fantasy. This architecture is a fusion of Rajput, Mughal and European architecture. The exterior contrasts dramatically with the oriental interiors and amenities. The palace has beautiful latticework and filigree work, which are hallmarks of a great craftsmanship.

The Palace has an amazing collection of well maintained paintings and hunting trophies. Sprawling lawns with blooming bougainvillaea and dancing peacocks make for a visual extravaganza.

Shivbari Temple with its huge 'bawri's' or tanks dedicated to Lord Shiva is another popular place that you cannot miss while you are in Bikaner. Gajner Palace is another heritage structure which is also considered as the 'Jewel of the Thar Desert' that is spread across 6000 acres

There are many popular places where you can go sightseeing like Junagarh Fort which was built around the 16th century by the then ruler of Rajasthan Raja Rai Singh, Laxmi Niwas Palace, Lalgarh, Karni Mata temple - temple dedicated to the local goddess Karni Mata, this temple is also famous for the countless rats found in the temple and here rats are not considered as pests but as the goddess' consort.

If budget is a concern try the local shops that are in abundance. The chief items would include camel leather shoes, belts, bags, wallets and if you are a woman and want to enrich your wardrobe, you can go for bandhani sarees, dupattas, kundan jewellery, bangles, cotton fabrics etc.
